The tax rate applicable to Residents’ and Non-residents’ capital gains (e.g. the proceeds obtained from the sale of a house) was 21% until 2013.
The formula for calculating the taxable base of the CGT was amended with effect from January 1st, 2015, as a consequence of which, in order to offset the higher taxable base, the tax rate was provisionally reduced to 20% before its final reduction to 19% on January 1st, 2016.
The Spanish Prime Minister has announced that the reduction of this tax to 19% is being brought forward to take effect from July 1st, 2015.
This means that the proceeds obtained from the sale of real property and other property transferred after July 1st will be taxed at the rate of 19% instead of 20%.
